How Xbox followers work

Xbox separates people who follow you from people you are friends with. Understanding the difference explains why follower counts vary so much between profiles and what actually changes when that number goes up.
Followers vs friends
Following is one-way: anyone can follow you without you following back. A friend is someone you follow who also follows you. Your profile shows both, and the follower count is the number people notice first.
Why follower count matters
Players use it as a quick signal of how established a profile is. A new account with zero followers looks new, even if the player behind it is experienced. Streamers and creators often want a count that reflects their audience elsewhere.
Ways to grow followers
Organic growth comes from playing with people, being active in LFG and clubs, and sharing clips. It is slow but steady.
- Join active clubs and LFG groups for your main games
- Share clips and screenshots publicly
- Link your gamertag from Discord, Twitch, or social profiles
Using a follower service
